Title: Take a Hint, Dani Brown
Author: Talia Hibbert
Publication Date: February 12th 2019
Danika Brown knows what she wants: professional success, academic renown, and an occasional roll in the hay to relieve all that career-driven tension. But romance? Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. Romantic partners, whatever their gender, are a distraction at best and a drain at worst. So Dani asks the universe for the perfect friend-with-benefits—someone who knows the score and knows their way around the bedroom.
When brooding security guard Zafir Ansari rescues Dani from a workplace fire drill gone wrong, it’s an obvious sign: PhD student Dani and ex-rugby player Zaf are destined to sleep together. But before she can explain that fact, a video of the heroic rescue goes viral. Now half the internet is shipping #DrRugbae—and Zaf is begging Dani to play along. Turns out, his sports charity for kids could really use the publicity. Lying to help children? Who on earth would refuse?
Dani’s plan is simple: fake a relationship in public, seduce Zaf behind the scenes. The trouble is, grumpy Zaf’s secretly a hopeless romantic—and he’s determined to corrupt Dani’s stone-cold realism. Before long, he’s tackling her fears into the dirt. But the former sports star has issues of his own, and the walls around his heart are as thick as his… um, thighs.
Suddenly, the easy lay Dani dreamed of is more complex than her thesis. Has her wish backfired? Is her focus being tested? Or is the universe just waiting for her to take a hint?
I’m back and ready to talk about how much I love Talia Hibbert and the Brown sisters. Is anyone surprised by that? If you missed the first review where I raved about Get a Life, Chloe Brown, you can find that here.
I liked Take a Hint, Dani Brown a little bit more than Get a Life. I think I just really liked the characters in Dani’s stories. Dani was an absolute delight to read about. Her fears and hesitations were so relatable to me and I just felt myself connecting with her more. She’s just a badass and I wish that I had a friend like her. I hope that out there somewhere in the world is a person exactly like Dani Brown and I hope I get to meet them and become their best friend.
Zaf or Zafir is probably one of my favorite love interests ever. He is a sweet, angel of a man and I wish he was real. The way Hibbert wrote about Zaf and the development he went through throughout the book was A1. Reading about how he dealt with his grief and didn’t let it define him made me emo and there were times where I just wanted to wrap him up in a giant hug. I also really like the way Hibbert depicted Zaf dealing with his anxiety as well as how Dani reacted to it. Overall I just love Talia Hibbert and the characters she creates.
Both the Brown sister books have an amazing cast of characters and I think that’s why I love them so much. The romance also isn’t the forefront of the book which is greatly appreciated as I don’t like solely romance books. Hibbert is amazing at creating 3-D characters that you can really relate to. The plot of the book was cute. It teetered right on the edge of absurd and believable.
Hibbert’s writing is smooth and easy to read. It’s honestly just a fun time and you an easily fall into the story. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was lovely and I really enjoyed listening to them read the book.
I honestly can’t wait for the next book in the series especially since it’s about Eve. I know Hibbert is going to do an amazing job with Eve’s love story and I can’t wait to read about it! I also really want to get physical copies of the books so that their beauty can remain on my shelf forever. As always I definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for something cute and easy to read.
